in what way are the temples in say majoras mask, not vastly deficient compared to say tomb raider? is it supposed to compete wtih the newer tomb raiders? assasins creed? uncharted? far cry?

are we supposed to compare against souls games? is it all about good challenging game play?

< would say probably its supposed to be rpg they just are lazy, and nintendo rose tinted glass cover up the vast deficiencies

Not really, as Majora’s Mask was released before all of those.

And games don’t really have to compete with other games. That’s how you get inferior clones that take mechanics from other games but fail to understand what makes them enjoyable in the original.

In RPGs you usually have character development (leveling up, improving stats, learning new abilities, etc.) which is not the case in Zelda games. Makes them (action-)adventures.

You could make a very light case that Zelda has this but the key difference is that literally everything that improves your character you either find during your adventures or by doing puzzles
