Well, seems to be the headphones after all. 2 different cables tested Tested on PC and phone Different headphones tested Now the sound either is completely off on the right side or significantly lower. Gonna go to the store soon to get them replaced. This is fucking annoying. I just want headphones that work. * * * These Headphones definitely don’t like me. Went to the store, told the guy what the problem is. He tried them himself…no issue. He’s understanding and tells me to let them run for some time, maybe it will occur only after some time. 20min later and no issue. He said he _could_ send them in, but if they find no issue than I have to pay for it. And that he’d rather have me take them home, use them again and if the issue occurs again come back and let them send the headphones to AKG. Was on the phone just now with the store cause I forgot to ask how much it would cost if they can’t find a defect (~50€). But the guy on the phone did sound much more understanding and maybe even more eager to find the issue than me. Told me I should send them in anyway cause it sounds like there’s something wrong with them, even when the issue occurs so randomly. Gonna test them some more and if they act up again I’m gonna go to the store again today. If not, then on monday, regardless if the decreased volume/no sound on right side happens again or not. But I gotta say I’m surprised that guy was so eager to send them in and find out what’s wrong with them. Guess that’s a passionate audio guy. ---

I can replicate the issue!!! Just takes ~3.5h of use on low volume. Then the issue starts appearing: first the volume goes down - but so slowly that you don’t notice it until the difference to the left side is really big -, then no audio at all on the right side. ~10min break (take them off, stop playback) then it will work again for ~15-30min until it starts from the beginning. The only issue with replicating it is the time it takes and I suspect temperature being the other factor. Like there’s a metal part in there that expands slowly over time when the headphones get used, until it looses contact. Then contracts cause lower temperature (electricity running through the wires and body heat from the head) until it gets contact again. Rinse and repeat.
