Hmm… Got invited to be in the Anthem closed alpha…
… when I work lol. Rip.
Not that I’m interested in the first place as it’s EA but closed alphas are neat so meh.

Does it matter that my new HDDs are formatted with exFAT instead of NTFS? Just noticed.

Not really, exFAT was intentied to get over the limtations of FAT32 while keeping good comapbitlity and fairly lightweight too. There aren’t really any downsides to using it over NTFS iirc.

I read that compared to exFAT, NTFS has some nice features and that it should be used for int. HDDs. Just don’t know if I really need them.

NTFS seems to have much greater compatibility.

ye that is true but what I read is that OSX doesn’t have write support for NTFS and does for exFAT and has support for most other devices today such as game consoles, phones and such whereas NTFS isn’t a present. I mean for internal sysetms it fine but not embedded so much.

What does that mean for an actual use case?

Everything is probably gonna go ext once windows adds support. (If they do)

Also our smart TV supports NTFS but not exfat

usescase is it works for smartphones, cameras and games consoles to transfer files and NTFS at present doesn’t work on those platforms.

I really hope they do have support for ext because it would make my life a lot easier to get over the mess that is NTFS on Windows and have a better supported filesystem.

Intersting, maybe an outlayer? haven’t tested my smart tv to see if it works with thoses.

Isn’t that the standard?
Until now I was under the impression that there’s the choice between NTFS and FAT32 for Windows (int. vs ext. storage), and exFAT being kind of an esoteric choice for special use cases.

ye theres also ReFS which is Microsofts answer to ZFS/BTRFS but from what I understand it is still mostly built on top of what NTFS which is a whole other thing.

So, to sum it up: not a big deal if exFAT or NTFS unless it needs to be used with both Windows and OSX?

Hm…my paranoia tells me to move the files and format anyway. just to be sure.

I get the impression that Linux is much more advanced when it comes to file systems.

Its like rusty tin can vs silver plate lol

The rust in the tin can gives it a nice rustic flavor…and tetanus.

Meanwhile the silver gives you Argyria.
