Ayn Rand wrote a couple books about that shift… anthem was a nice little read
I’m just behind you lol
Pahhahaah girl you remember that shit…!? god jfing and I were stoned out of our mind that was so funny
Appears i have the oldest account here so far XD
You should remember me… March of 14
That’s a really good point. I guess have our forums become stale?
From friends to self I can see that… my space and Facebook were about friends… Instagram and snap are me me me… let’s hope we change back as a paradigm shift… because comradery is never lonely
I was generally just lurking but never interacted with the lounge until The Loganing.
And a lot of people changed their names. I already have a hard time keeping people online apart unless I interact with them on a daily basis.
That’s fair not everyone was part of the dream team or associated with then god that shit was so funny … you’d know it was coming too because everyone in the mumble would be shouting dream team… dream team this shit and give each other shit for fucking it up… I honest to God miss that shit it was funny
Or that one time Wendell opened a link he shouldn’t have and basically said I really should be more careful of what I open from you guys
The old beardless Wendell behind his wall of monitors.
Yeah he no joke was in the mumble from time to time as w… Or irc good ole irc… god damn I miss the shit of old… hell I miss Windows mother fuckin XP
Not the forums but what they represent. They evolved out of the need to connect with other people who would otherwise be isolated to whatever town/community they were in locally. The internet has slowly stripped away that need for a place where people can connect since they are more than ever connected.
I blame the paradigm shift towards self on fame culture. People just slowly became obsessed with specific people and it didnt take long for them to want to see themselves in the same light. How many kids do you know that have at one point wanted to become famous regardless of the motives behind it like wealth, power, etc
I never really used that one much outside of school… at home we had 95 then 98, then I got a ps2 and didn’t do much with computers for many years.
same here. Ran it up until like 2015 kek
Though my main rig from 2012-2016-ish was all pentium 4/core 2 based.
Didn’t really use it that long. But I rocked Vista for ~8 years until the hardware completely crapped out.
And so, streaming culture was born.
I’d argue YT too, to some extent but Twitch is on a different toxic level cause you get to interact live.
I enjoy streaming, but not for the same reasons… It’s like when you used to have friends come over and play a game. Just sharing the experience was fun, didn’t matter what game it was.
Can’t quite remember when I moved from Windows XP but I changed to Vista and that was a very bad idea. later moved to Linux in 2008 in part of consequence of that becasue my computer couldn’t take it and the game I was playing heavily at the time ran like 100% better on Linux than Windows
Lol

Seems most of us joined pretty much at the exact time and ended up here. How strange
