The Lounge 0001 [From the Beginning]

yep. Always more costs to a phone number than people realize, You now have a device that can be broken, stolen, etc. Getting data to a phone is more expensive than just running a email server that can serve thousands of people for the cost of power and data

One might argue that the same is true for a tablet/laptop. Also for a desktop but less likely as you (usually) only use that at home.

I never really thought of it like that but that makes a lot of sense. its always been a thing here to have a phone here even if its just a very cheap one for receiving calls. though I’ve always preferred email just because of its not real time nature. phone calls give me anxiety and I can take in and express my thoughts way better through text than I ever could verbally over the phone plus I don’t have to be there to receive it and can get to it when I’m ready.

most all of our libraries here have computers you can freely use though I did hear a story once that apparently some homeless guy was masturbating to porn in the library using one.

Then those homeless people can hack or the people at Walmart who set the laptops up forgot to lock them down. Here they only have some fullscreen spec page and you can’t access anything.
And why are those laptops connected to the internet? Wouldn’t it be Walmart’s liabilty if someone did something illegal with them?

Ah, yes. The public masturbation stations.

most computer stores here have their phones/tablets/computers unlocked so you can test them and see if you like it. people go in the apple store here and change all the phones backgrounds to funny shit lol

Pull one out of the box, lock it to the floor post, and just setup it as you would at home. auto login to admin, with default setting for literally everything. Someone brick it? Just unplug the power cord and have it be a physical demo

They’re all either locked away in the cupboard under the display or in the back.

It’s been a while since I’ve been to a big electronics store but at the small carrier shops here most have the phones locked inside glass cabinets or on display where you can touch them but they’re all powered off with just the spec list screen protector on them (and from what I’ve seen they don’t turn on).
It’s almost as if they don’t want people to try them out before buying them.
