Nice. hopefully we can get this all setup and working soon

hopefully this is the last time we have to switch domains. gonna have to switch over the forums to a new server atleast one more time but oh well

yep switching server shouldn’t be nearly as bad on the domain front though. should need to change a single a record. moving not so much but won’t be that bad.

will need to change a few things but most of that is server side to it will bind to a specific IP, SSL, etc

yep hopefully most of that should be fairly trivial as docker makes it super easy to move a container to a different machine.

dont even have to move a container. just need to move a folder over and rebuild the discourse image

nice thats even better

yep. I might host my own mail server when i get a VPS for the forum so i dont have to worry about any of the fuff

yep should be much better with everything under your own control. might even be slightly more robust/secure as the forum doesn’t need to contact the mail server over the internet.

yep. I still need to find a good cheap VPS that is reliable. That has to wait until after i get a job though so i can pay for the VPS

yep thats always the problem but will get there soon enough. luckily forums are fairly light so should be able to find something reasonable when the time comes.

ill want something that i can just throw more resources at without having to generate a whole new server

so your aiming for say a VPS with twice as much as you need now so you can provision for the future?

yes and no. I want something i can just buy the bare needed resources and purchase more as i need it. I want to be able to add more resources to the server without having to make a whole new VPS

oh right so something that works sorta like AWS where you can provision on the fly. Most of the VPS providers I’ve used in the past won’t let you do that which sucks :frowning:

yep

yep hopefully you can find one reasonable enough that’ll let you do that. iirc its mostly a thing on the expensive VPSs that bill by the hour.
