even worse that it was a gentoo install that killed it too
KEK install gentoo they said, whats the worse that could happen
What was my goal for writing in Samâs Wasteland Within and did I succeed:
To finish the second page of the sixth chapter, bare in mind I had written only one paragraph for it.
Yes I succeed and wrote a little into page three of the sixth chapter.
You may be wondering is my goal now always going to be finish the page? Yeah. It gives me focus and pushes me to actually write. I want to and need to do this.
Bad news:
Work is in crunch mode and Iâll be working this weekend and next. This means the ReShade Photograph Session of Hellblade Live stream wonât happen till the Saturday the week after next. Good news is itâll always be an hour and every Saturday until Hellblade is done and then the next game will be Rise of the Tomb Raider. Short version ReShade Photograph Sessions of a Game Every Saturday. Iâll do the photograph while also talking about: lighting, contrast, color tone, focus, stuff most gamers donât see or think about.
Finally replaced the cooling fan in my old laptop. Time to boot Linux and see how it does. Will be interesting using this again as it was the first machine I ever put Linux on
I did a test boot to bios when it was still apart but now it wonât after I put it together. welp time to take it apart again
Welp looks like its dead. worked literally right before I put the screws in
Maybe not dead? I can get it boot messing with the power ribbon cable but fans instantly spin at 100% and I have no display output. wouldnât be totally surprised if the display is died because the cable is super janky and you can see exposed strands to the connector which was like this the fist time I opened it.
Holy shit it works. I reseated everything and it boots with the display
Now I just need to find some way to turn it on with a broken power button.
would buy a tact switch and solder a button onto it
yeah I might do that, can get a ton of tact switches for fairly cheap. Looking at the ribbon cable though the contacts are bent and overlapping each other. gonna try and straighten them out and see if it helps.
be SUPER careful. the cable is beyond fragile
yeah, three of the contacts were overlapping and one was completely missing. I might try and see if I can get the power button from my other laptop to work with this or at least salvage the ribbon cable from it.
does the laptop have media keys? is the only reason i could see having the power button with 4+ connectors
nope none at all. it only has a power button.
strange. what laptop is it? a power button shouldnt have more than 2 connectors
its an Inspiron N5010. my other dell laptop is the same and that doesnât have media keys either.
that is super fucking strange that it uses 4+ wires for a power button. you can get away with 1 wire if you want extra cost in parts.
Yea its dell so I have no fucking idea. since both my power switches use 4 wires might try and carefully solder the working one onto the other board
