The German noun (with the meaning “Stellvertreter” (in English “deputy”) from Middle High German «locum tenens» Platzhalter (in English “place holder”) was derived from the French word «Lieutenant» about 1500.
Which is like the American way to say it.
But English way is leftenant which is… Odd.
I can, English is what happens when all the European languages fuck and no one takes care of the baby
