I’ve been playing M/18+ rated games since I was little. My brothers or parents would just buy them for me.
My mom and her ex first learned about RE from a 12yo relative.
I get that the cashiers can get in a lot of trouble when they’re caught selling that stuff to someone who’s too young. And that’s good. The stores are just covering their backs.
Still bought my cousin a 16+ game when he was 14 or so. Pissed the cashier off by buying it and handing it over to him in front of her (after he got refused to buy it himself). Dick move, when I look back.
Technically I bought 18+ video games myself before I was even 18. We had a market near us and was a place that sold 2nd hand video games and they didn’t give a shit how old you were.
While it wouldn’t stop people making it like tobacco in the US where you have to be 18 and show ID would help a fair amount.
And besides it would open the door for some actually dark 18+ games and etc.
Not that there isn’t ones like that now but people wpuld probably stop getting panties in a twist over an 18+ rated game (for example Wolfenstein kek) having very … Interesting storylines lol
Would help if the rating system was actually any good though lmao thats the first thing
In the US if a parent or guardain is present and gives consent a minor can buy a M rated game.
Also on steam all someone under 18 needs to do to buy an M/18+ is lie about their age that’s what I did.
The stores are just covering their asses by not selling them to minors. The stores don’t care who’ll actually play them after they got purchased.
In theaters it’s a bit different. A parent has to watch the movie with you if you’re under 18, 16, etc. Can’t just buy you a ticket and then go for a beer at the bar.
I know, but at least in my experience like half of the employees don’t give a fuck.
There’ll still be censorship (can’t have any swastikas and Nazi symbols in games sold in Germany/Austria). There’ll still be games getting criticized for their content (Manhunt, that shitty massacre game, that rape scene in Hotline Miami, etc) and treated as something dangerous for kids.
It’s easier to blame something/someone else and have someone else deal with it than actively doing something about it (like not buying games that contain loot boxes, making sure your kids only play games that are rated for their age).
It’s also easier to blame something/someone else to protect the real cause of a problem if it’s convenient for you. (not going into detail cause that would most likely lead to pol).
Lmao movie theatres give less of a shit here than people at places that sell games
They don’t, the ratings are only guidelines but the stores are required to follow them because there is liability, I can guarantee most if not all of those employees played video games they were not allowed to under the rating system themselves.
Why should people admit they’re bad parents when they can blame it on video games
Childhood friend and me wanted to see Tomb Raider. His mother bought the tickets (standing right at her side, so the guy at the counter SAW us) and we were supposed to watch the movie without her (as she had no interest in it). I got in, he didn’t (and he was only 1 year too young for the rating). His mom had to argue quite a big to our tickets changed (essentially being the theater’s fault for not checking the age when she purchased the tickets and then not checking again BEFORE my ticket was ripped…come on, we stood in front of you together, why would you assume I’d just go in and watch the movie while my friend got refused entry?).
See post above.
I always thought this was stupid. Wolfenstein for example in an American Nazi killing power trip.
Still. Never had any swastikas and Nazi symbols in any games. The Darkness (not sure if 1 or 2) had a flashback scene to WW2 -> no symbols. Don’t remember if all the Medal of Honor games had them removed too.
That might have just been a german thing lol. Every WW2 game here has a nazi symbol
I’d imagine that a fair number of people just buy a copy from an uncensored country.
All CoD games have them all replaced with the alternate logo.
And War thunder has only got the imperial German stuff iirc
And Austrian. Those 2 countries are very anal about that stuff.
Yes it essentially is, you are not allowed to dispaly nazi symbols by law in Germany iirc. we had them in games here as well.
