I mostly use my VMs for Windows now and have shifted almost all my Linux stuff over to containers because they are much easier to manage, still have a couple around such as Kali Linux for when I need to use that. pass-through is nice to play around with though if not a little bit of a bitch to tame.
I’d like to move over to Linux but lots of the software I use or have to use doesn’t work on Linux plus I don’t want to lose the ability to play half of my steam library. That’s why I’m thinking of trying pass-through. I’ll probably try on my fx system first. I really hate windows 10 spy crap but I need it for software support. Although I can get a free windows 10 enterprise license through my school and disable the spying garbage
Passthough really does give you the best of both worlds. can use Linux full time but have a virtualised system that runs damn near native performance for everything else that you’d hardly notice its a VM at all.
Once you get it to work, the getting it to work is the hard part from what I hear.
Ha, called it.
SoonTM on normal GPU prices Maybe.
Getting it to work is half the battle but it really isn’t that bad especially now compared to what it used to be. is almost plug and play on Fedora and has always worked pretty well on Arch as long as you have the hardware to support it.
It is beyond easy on fedora XD. you just make a file and reboot and its basically done
I think I’d be good on the hardware with a 8/16 cpu and a R9 390, R9 280x or GTX 750
the 1600x with a AMD guest GPU is a good solution
Yep only trouble I had getting it to work was because both my 970 and 980 are gigabyte cards and share the same audio id but a custom shell script sorted that out easily.
The cpu I’ll get will be a 1700/X or 2700/X
how much do you plan on OCing? might be a good option to go with a 1700x over the 2700x as it might be fairly cheaper
Well I’m going to get a NH-D15 so a bit
good choice I approve
ye. From what it seems like the 2700/X will just have a higher base clock and get 100-300Mhz higher OC over the 1700/X
It’s the best air cooler you can get and I’m not a fan of AIOs, plus it’s better and cheaper then most AIOs
Basically I’ll get a 2700/X only if the second gen parts oc better
Mostly the same reason I got my D15, thing cools my 1700 pretty damn well.
