First day in New position. Tossed in the deep end. I’m staying calm. I’ll get this.

oh
the mounting plate for my 60% custom keyboard is already in the US, should be here in a few days.
in other news
just got a free cash register because a local guy had it for recycling so. also had to take a printer but meh

the thing supposedly works but will have to see after i clean it up and all that
they go for like $200ish so not a bad pickup

also half tempted to see if I can’t get one of the Accelero coolers from my dad and strap that thing to the 390X and see if temps improve. will see.

While my tablet seems to be a bit sensitive about what’s between it and the AP, the speeds are nothing to sneeze at. On par with my desktop’s LAN connection and the ISP’s advertised speeds.

For future purchases of tablets and phones I’ll settle for the higher onboard storage. Manufacturers really bloat their devices unless it’s a Google device or from someone who ships them with only a few of their own apps (like my Moto G 2015).
~7GB were available of the 16GB. Custom ROM might have its place in the future.

Writing Corner:
Fantasy Story - I reached the point where I’ll do a break to indicate a passage of time in the chapter. I’m on page 20 of the story and page 5/6 [It’s one of those numbers] for chapter 2.

Practice Story Judge Night - Work on PROG 2 is going well. I’ll be doing some formatting stuff on the thread I made for posting when I finish PROG 2 which will be Thursday. TOC and Headings will be added. Kinda like a wiki or guide except it’s fiction.

Sam’s Wasteland Within - I’ll be working on that today.

How is the new position:
No documentation or reference material. So I’m making my own documentation cause I want to do my job right and if I have a question, I just want to refer to my easy to follow documentation. 1st day not great for me but it’s partly due to all of my question on how to do what I need to do. I didn’t even finish what I started because hardware and software issues. I’m about 75 percent what I did was right.

TLDR: Wolfleben is busy and making his own documentation for his job.

oh for fucks sakes
guy let me know that only the slots on the left work and not on the right
so it was damaged by USPS

well, at least i know what happened now. will give the guy the refund on the board.

That should be his business with USPS.

what can i do though i mean… if he still wants the refund I understand and will do so. I can’t really control for USPS being a dick but it’s not like I can replace or repair the board so it’s close enough

this is annoying. I think i did add extra insurance on the package though so… will see if the guy still wants a refund and go from there

in any case at least it wasn’t my fault… and I packaged it very well so USPS must have really fucked it up to break the thing :frowning:

Thus it shouldn’t be your responsibility.
When I order something from Amazon and the package gets damaged during shipping I feel bad for customer support cause they apologize on behalf of the shipping company. Amazon didn’t fuck up, the shipping company did, so Amazon has no obligation or reason to apologize. Instead they should take take the complaint to the shipping company and chew them out (mostly because as a big company they’ll probably have more leverage than some person, and I know how my local postal service handles complaints -> ā€œyeah, I’ll forward itā€ hangs up and does nothing).

to be fair amazon really pushes the shipping companies to the limits

i don’t really know honestly… argument can be made either way. I lean towards helping the people though, to build a good rep on hardware swap/ebay/ etc. though ebay is whatever but still
i mean the fact that it broke really sucks and i understand the position the guy is in so i wouldn’t be mad if he still wants the refund
it sucks that i have to pay him back (if he goes with that route) but if not the insurance should be more than enough to replace it or at least get better ram for the system he’s using so?

Yeah, that’s another side of it. I feel for the guys and gals delivering more packages than they should cause shortstaffed but don’t get paid more. They’re bound to get frustrated and start to care less.
But by doing their own delivery (at least in some regions) Amazon takes business away from those companies. Not the ideal solution.

Doesn’t mean you have to get the short end of the stick and suck it up for a good rep.

That should be the way - IMO. Get USPS to pay for the damage THEY caused.
