I’d argue that there are way more safe and helpful applications on github that they are malicious ones and banning the many because of the very is dumb.

security is not their strong point considering they threatened legal action when i tried to help them make their devices more secure by showing them some security vulnerabilities

that is just dumb, throwing the legal book because they don’t understand it doesn’t help anyone including them. they need to work with people who find security vulnerabilities. imo if the head of the IT department knew what they were doing and actually had experience with security practices I’m sure they would’ve worked with you to sort it out but noo

Yep. I would almost enjoy working school IT in a weird and sadistic way. I love helping people out but i also like having people at my mercy

Lel. My high school at least knew enough to figure out which computers were doing bad things and thing remote in to them and stop it.
Was funny because some people tried doing dumb things and then the computers would “magically” start moving the mouses and etc by themselves and normies Would get scared/whatever

I’d actually love to work school IT. its the perfect playing grounds to hone my skills and I’m sure they have some very interesting IT challenges to solve in that environment.

my old high school where i was doing student aid IT work at had a similar system but we instead opted to instead just kill off network access to the machine and investigate by hand. high school had like 200 people max so 2-3 people could manage fairly well

When I was at college some students hacked the network, was mostly low tier script kiddy stuff but they took down mostly the entire network down during that time to investigate and even took the server that hosted our web assignments and never brought it backup again at least not to the internet after that.

There is actually a short but funny story about how i got the student aid postition lol. I had just recently been blamed for vandalism (thats another story for another time) and i decided i wanted to be a edgy teen and get my revenge.
The entire school district was pretty much entirely managed by windows workgroup and group policy. It was fairly locked down but windows XP being XP it was buggy and stupidly easy to bypass. I had managed to get a shell working using a trick that just calls cmd.exe as a subprocess from a batch script. From there i used another bug in windows XP that allowed any user to create workgroup admin accounts as long as they had shell access. About a week later my parents got a call saying that i hacked the school and that they wanted me to drop a class and come help them out.
Was pretty fun little gig though they didnt trust me much. took almost a year before i got the admin password so i could properly diagnose errors. Man is being choatic evil fun

That is very clever and devious, I like it. not surprising how bad XP security was even then. just think of the mess you could’ve made if you wanted to XD

TL;DR the only evidence they had was a expo marker which was a REQUIRED school supply 
also chain of command and several other things were violated in what would have been the worst legal case in the past few years

lmao seriously? that is all they had? a single marker as evidence is laughable. What so they messed up chain of custody of this single marker that was REQUIRED very everyone and really could’ve been any marker?

That is all they had. Not even that but the marker was used on GLASS tiles. they drug out a shit-ton of cleaning supplies and expected me to take 5-10 minutes to clean it. I walked up to it and wiped it off with my finger and said “Is that all? Can i leave now?”
