The Lounge 0001 [From the Beginning]

Ah nice. The 8560 and 8760 look pretty similar from that angle, full backlit keyboard and everything.

I just picked up a small stack of 6570Bs* last night for $50 a piece. i5-3230M and 8GB PC3-12800, just need to install my own HDDs.

@Fouquin question for you. What kind of upgrade path do i have with the 8760w GPU wise? the m5950 wont last me long for sure and would be neat to just upgrade the machine some

Officially you can upgrade to the Quadro 5010M which is basically a GF110 core cut to act like GF114. It’s got a little less texel performance than the GTX 580M, but it has twice the VRAM. There might be some unofficial support for Kepler Quadros, but that’s only something I know works for Dell. I’ve never tried it in an HP.

In other news.
This is quite a decent looking game, might keep an eye on it as it develops and see how it goes.

hmm. could be a decent upgrade if i got a good deal on the GPU. seems to be about 25% slower than my 860m

It’s also before nVidia started locking their cards down. You can overclock it with software.

Don’t tell her that. She destroyed a fan by OCing it :stuck_out_tongue:

Gonna see how well the m5950 does first. the 5010m might only be worth it if i get a good deal

Has it thunderbolt?

no but it has expresscard/54 and iirc i can do external gpu that way

The 3000M and 4000M are both under $100 on the US resale market, the 3000M is a decent bump up but the 4000M is literally just a full GF104 chip and is simply an underclocked GTX 460. Not substantially slower than the 5010M.

will have to keep this in mind though by the time i upgrade the laptop i should already have a decent enough desktop or laptop that can do gaming
