Got some fun new toys from the e-waste event. AT 486 system that has sadly been upgraded to a Pentium board (Socket 5). At least the case is cool.

Also got some older Thinkpads. The A31 I’m not as excited about, but it’s in near perfect condition so I grabbed it. I’m really excited about the i1400 since it’s the slower Pentium MMX version that’s compatible with the AMD K6-2 CPUs. This means I can swap my K6-2/500AFX into it and double the performance for nothing. It’s also already got the first generation AGP 2x ATi Rage card (AGP bus only, the GPU is still soldered) so it might even run a few games. Got it charging now to see if it will boot off the battery.

Welcome to the dark side :smiling_imp:

Oh hon, I never truly left the dark side.

God I’ve been a Linux user off and on for almost 10 years now.

ive only been a linux user for like 7-8 years but i never really owned my own hardware until then either

Honestly, my Linux adventures started with some failed attempts to Hackintosh some old old laptops I had.

Hell, I still remember my first laptop. An Acer Aspire 3310. Hunk of shit.

Mine started when my hard drive crashed so i just threw a ubuntu live usb drive and used that for the next 2 years

Lol. I used a USB of Puppy as a main boot drive for a desktop at one point not too long ago. Didn’t have a working hard drive to throw in there at the time.

i still remember that shitty laptop that had windows 7 starter on it lol. 32bit with a 2gb ram limitation. i actually had to crack out a hex editor and edit the windows kernel to enable using more than 2gb of ram lol
