File transfer on Android devices really is a pain in the ass. I thought it was just the controller on my Moto G, but itâs the same with my Huawei tablet. Lags and freezes all the time but no issues when I take the microSD card out and plug it into USB on my PC via adapter -_-
Yep this is always the case and its likely due to the overhead of using the MTP protocol. MTP doesnât have raw file system access like standard usb mass storage does and instead works on a file level, the computer will query the device and the phone has to respond which is a lot less efficient than raw access and is why the lag happens, it is waiting for the phone to tell it what data it has.
While in theory it sounds like a mild annoyance, in reality itâs just broken and 80% of the time not usable for me.
We have Android 8.1 and this is still an issue.
This seems to be a much larger issue with expandable storage compare to the internal storage. If this was the same then people without the option for expandable storage (Pixel, etc) are fucked.
Copying the manga from my tablet to my PC was straight up impossible without taking the microSD card out and using an adapter.
I might need to go from 64GB to 128GB if my manga consumption goes upâŚ
I mean the issue is with the protocol and not its implementation, although it has gotten a lot better over time but there really isnât a better option right now. Without MTP weâd be back to mounting the storage device on the computer and couldnât use the phone at the same time which would break a lot of things in modern Android and MTP usually isnât that bad unless you want to transfer a lot of files at once because it has todo a lot of querying for data.
