like when made first one for at home ended up just doing athlon 200ge(Cause was cheapo/did everything needed at time without having to do any extra shiz) could have done like odroid c+ or somethin idk, but after some digging wouldnt have worked for what wanted, cause no drivers for the video decode if i used regular linux, was like had to be android or 1 other thing was some port of open elec or something

otherwise no decode and only had 4 arm cores so was basically a no on 1080p 30fps h265, that you could not just use vlc or mpv or whatever you wanted

edit: want no android(atleast at the time cause google sux) and basically a need for the hardware support with regular drivers, like maybe a add non free or something extra repo is bout it, not willin to do like only one distro they modify has this one extra black box package, otherwise its like 100% load constantly with dropping frames

Again used nintendo switches, or repairable ones. HAC-001, Tegra X1. Running linux rn, have clock control, goin my thing. Using the dock, hooked up to 4K TV, eveything works.

they did try makin tablets or whatever with that before so not surprised has better driver support, but switch itself sux, extra big, still low res screen like zero io on the device other than gamepad which does nothin for typin which is the main thing need lol, guess they cheaper atleast like 300$ for a new one?


if i had switch and went somewhere, need switch, a cable from that to some sort of breakout box thats probably expensive?(to do multiple usb hdmi etc but still have access to onboard screen) then a kb/mouse thing to plug into that, cable from that to external hdd, then power cable for switch/breakout box, and the hdd, then a hdmi cable

where if had micro is like, power for that, power for hdd, cable for hdd and hdmi

Been using it as a desktop. Not many problems. 2GHz, big little core setup, can do per ghz clock stepping or per thread call (basically stock). 1020-2090 mhz vs 209-2090mhz. I do advise to get the Ayn Odin dock though, or the second gen switch dock. The first gen needs constant reseating.

Ayn Odin is only other ultraportable I’d recommend. If you needed firepower, run an external host.

Ayn Odin Dock. Has 4 USB, has 2 HDMI, use phone with KDE connect on the go or use non-gnome DE’s. Switch has rotation too, so worst case scenario, on screen kb works. Otherwise, BT networking, KDE connek.

USB C breakout for USB on the go, use this ribbon. Thats what I am gunna do. I have an external SSD, 256GB SD card that runs at A3, I use a phone to manage boot and firmware updates, and just in case I have a USB A + USB C double sided USB stick with a clone of my base SD card setup on it in case I have to completely dump and reformat, for example, if someone hacks me.

This is a much better / more modern setup for me compared to having a desktop. The only comparable thing would be a netbook with a good proc or an X86 tablet that doesn’t blow chunks.

like micro has 3 usb a 1 type c 1 hdmi ands 3.5, built in kb mouse and monitor which would work good enough

so like media server use not at home would be like 1 hdd to have content, and hdmi out, maybe 3.5 depending on audio setup, which you could do a hdmi to 3.5 audio splitter i guess if didnt have that, that when transfer some files or whatever still 2 free usb a after c for charge, and an a for the bring along external

Nintendo dock V1 has 3 USB, 2 2.0 1 3.0, dock 2 has 2 2.0, 2 3.0, 1 nic, ayn odin dock has other shit.

If you’re going for purely a media machine, get in contact with sink. They are working on GPU drivers to run linux on an ipad. Its almost complete from what I understand, but thats literally all the information she is allowed to share.

X86 based machines are too chuggy, PPC is PPC, ARM is really the only thing that makes sense you just gotta know your SOC tooling, at least if I was doing this.

Biggest recommend is look for NVME. If it supports NVMe you can make it do literally anything.

thats just the more demanding task, checking email(stuff dont wanna check or have checked on android for google reasons) or editing a single c file whatever can do on my current old laptop thing has a pile driver quad core at 2.1ghz al core turbo i think, the decode 265 1080p whatever that would be like 8 core arm cpu or newer high clock like 2+ ghz to even try to do if no drivers for gpu/hardware decode

which the intel one supports 264/5 vp9 whatever which is prob fine for life of the thing

Thats why I said SD 845/+ specifically. Has drivers. Other issue will be power.

Also the difference between these platforms, in all logistical honesty, is like… 14 seconds of your time

ye but also annoyance and formfactor benefits, like the pyra if it wasnt vapor ware and super outdated cpu and stuff would be cool, has multiple io options, and kb think the game pad works as mouse idk

like once start talking docks and cables and stuff switch no longer is a ‘pocket’ device, that the micro/gpd win etc, that 7in one posted earlier would all work pretty good like full functionality for my laptop usage with just the device itself, then prolly an external drive for media usage since aint spending for a 8tb m.2 or something.

and then installing loonix or whatever is just a usb and wipe anything i dont want, not exploiting a bug or whatever to get root access to eventually wipe a bunch of shit and replace some firmware to let me boot something maybe, or just do like a vm and chroot into it

Its literally just turning on internal serial networking for during the boot cycle so your bootloader starts first. Its not rly an exploit lol.

had the g1 had to flash to old ass version of android then type into the text editor to have it go into the terminal also cause some dumb oversight bug, then could open up telnet so could use a terminal emulator to get access to the terminal thru telnet, then you could disable some verification thing so you could flash over a recovery image with a different bootloader

edits: dont have switch or anything tho so have to buy somethin lol, or just keep using super old laptop, but that can only do 264 like 1080p max

newer switches are hackable too but require a mod chip so unless you fancy some soldering work first gen switch is the best option.
