The Lounge 0001 [From the Beginning]

Alright so I’ve been at this for about an hour but my router is acting strange and I just can’t figure out what is up with it. for some reason it cannot connect to the internet its self and has stopped updating NTP data, can’t install packages, ping ip addresses, request data through curl or anything, however devices connected to it are working fine with a stable connection and everything works for those it just can’t connect to the internet its self.

I really have no idea wtf is up with this :frowning:

It depends sometimes.
Ever read In the Name of the Wind?
Technically the whole story is a flashback being told by the main character. Some moments are dark others light.

There will be some lighter flashbacks in this story but not most.

Your router has gone Rouge. It is Skynet. You’ve doomed us all.

You might be right, its limiting its own connection to the internet so I can’t update it to subvert its overwrite

In all seriousness I think it might be a problem with the firewall and it somehow blocking its self.

Edit: Looks like that might have been it? I restarted the pfBlockerNG service which auto manages some firewall rules for blocklists and it now has a connection again

I watched the first episode of The Dragon Prince.
I noticed the occasional delay in the cg animation… Lol. Story seems promising.

Also we are getting a Live Action TV version of Avatar the Last Airbender from Netflix and the original creators will be involved… It is going to be a bit before we see it. I still need to get the series and the sequel series on Bluray.

flashbacks to the movie

Started watching My Name is Earl when I did the memtest. I watched some episodes before when it was on TV here a couple years back but with the whole “wait one week for the next episode” thing it didn’t grab my attention very much. Now that I can watch S1-4 for “free” on Amazon Prime I’m binging it and it’s quite good as “having something on while doing something else”.

I need one of these…

Until the metal thing breaks the glass and shards are everywhere. Drinking glass ain’t fun.

The first test did knock the whole top off, not just the cap. I’m sure with better planning (and probably a different contact device, not just a metal shard, more like a typical arc like on a normal bottle opener) it could be made safer, more consistent, and look better. But for 6 hours worth of work that little novelty isn’t too bad.

Yeah, maybe something that kinda dampens the impact and pushes the cap off, rather than knocking.

Still a lot of work for something that’s just putting more effort into a simple thing. Doing something easy in a complicated way isn’t very appealing to me.

Same with his video about making the recessed button into a proud button on his flashlight. Nice idea but who the fuck just has a big lathe standing around to do this? Neat thing, absolutely but 99% of the people who watch this probably don’t have access to a lathe (for metal work, wood working lathes are a few leagues below).

adam savage literally makes things and records videos of building them for a living lol. thats his whole channel, like 99% of people don’t do that kind of thing :stuck_out_tongue:

I mean… the first one was like that. Hopefully this live action one is decent.

A lot of the stuff he creates on video are also to inspire people to recreate them, like his 1 day builds.

Same with his custom leatherman holder. Really cool idea and the materials are easy to get. but when you need a bending too for metal plates…kinda puts a stop to your enthusiasm about making one yourself. Putting the metal plate in a vice and bending it by hand will not be the same.

i mean
in murica a lot of people either have that or easy access to it (in the crowd of people that watch adam savage videos that is).
but most people may or may not even build it, just watch it cuz there’s no mythbusters lol.

Wasn’t he also promoting/advocating for those “maker spaces”? Kinda like some subscription based hipster workshops where you can go to and use their tools and space to build stuff? What happened to those?

there’s one in basically every city that’s larger than 30,000 people, can pay like $20 a month or simmilar (depends which one) and get access to an entire building full of machinery and building tools. it’s actually quite nice if you are into building things.
they usually also have CNC machines and 3dprinters, among others lol.3dprinters amuse me because unless they are actually made well they are broken more than they work.

They seem really handy for using machines that are just too expansive/large to own on your yourself (3d printer, cnc, lathe, etc).

Looks like we got a few 3d print shops here ourselves (didn’t know that).

Afaik some apartment complexes tried to have a small shop for the people who live there too but…turns out some people don’t respect/take good care of the property of others and they all got closed soon (broken tools, dirty shops, stolen stuff, etc). Would be nice if that would work out though.

Our apartment complex has a small shop too but that’s just a room in the basement of one building where the former groundskeeper set up his own tools he used to take care about stuff in the apartment complex. Ever since his daughter took over (and she doesn’t do even half of the work) it’s been abandoned. Wouldn’t be surprised if she just sold everything in there but there’s no way of knowing as it’s not open for the people who live there.

the fuck are you on, UPS, rofl
