So I’m trying to finally get sound working on the PPro system, Win98SE failed to start after being completely stable with no problems the last time I shut the system down. Grabbed another drive intending to do a fresh install and Windows mother-fucking ME boots up, recognizes and installs the drivers properly, then manages to restart itself without blue screening or wiping out its own registry. What fucking reality did I just step into?
It’s not even an install from remotely the same system. I am so confused.
Dentist appointment is over. Got the surface of the tooth fixed and as a bonus I got a filling and paid 50€ for it. Nice. I mean he does good work and knows what he does (while really not taking long - appointment at 2:10pm, done at 2:30pm).
Train was delayed (and the platform filling up with people). Opted for the tram…also delayed and full of people. Then the bus was also late and full of people. Didn’t wait. Walked home pissed af. Public transportation can be a bunch of braindead monkeys sometimes.
My nose and throat are getting more sore, which affects some nerves that let my gums swell.
Then my PC was doing this weird thing where periodically, after idk how long, the device unplugged/plugged in sound would play. No idea what device, wasn’t me who un/plugged anything manually.
Installed USBLogView and waited.
Turns out it’s my ODD that’s connected via USB but counts as a drive. Windows will periodically wake up the drives for some stuff which seems to include the ODD. Mystery solved. Not sure what I’m gonna do about it.
Still pissed I can’t play Carball… New issue came up where sometimes a player or 2 on the other team are invisible with their names over their starting positions, thus making it impossible to play effectively. No idea what to do about it either…
not up to much, I’m cooking a late tea because no ones had anything yet. doing burger and oven chips, I’ll probably not have any though because I’m not feeling too well.
That could be the issue… I suppose it’s time to update
Edit:
Lucky for me, a quick web search has revealed a git hub project to fix this problem. The problem is I have Ryzen on 8.1 and Windows demands I use 10 instead so it stops updates. The github is a workaround for this so I can continue to update without having to go to 10. I suppose I’ll give that a shot.
