The Lounge 0001 [From the Beginning]

I mean…it’s a demo. 1 section with unlimited plays should be enough unless it’s somehow altered and aims to trick the people into buying it. But why should they let you play the full game for free?

Not for free but a short time to see if i like the game. Dont want to buy a game for multiplayer if i cant try the multiplayer out. Or let me do the singleplayer section enough to see if a actually enjoy the game.

The crackdown demo was a great example of this. 30 minutes - 2 hours in game (depending on how far you got) but the game was fully featured. You could actually run around and see if you liked the game. (Think you could only explore so far but its been so long idk)

Well if the game already limits how long or how much you can play it then why also limit the other main features of the game? its not like you can play the entire thing anyway and that way you get a better feel for it.

Depends on how long the section is, I’d say. It’s just a demo, an appetizer, to give you a first impression.
Also depends if the demo is different on purpose compared to the full game (as a means to deceive people).

Don’t remember which game it was but reviewers got a “different” version for a game where lots of stuff was either already unlocked or they got a huge amount of ingame currency. And another game game had microtransactions added on Day 1 while the review versions didn’t have any, which was why reviewers had to edit the mention of them in afterwards.

Depends on what the games is about. Open world, lots of stuff to explore -> limit the world. Story driven game -> maybe 1 chapter or to the first mini-boss.

If you can’t explore/experience the whole game in the limited time the demo provides you, why does it need to be the whole game available?

Free extracts from books only give you a few pages too instead of the whole book and someone who stands next to you taking time and snatching the book out of your hands once the time is up.

Movies don’t do that at all. All you get are a some teasers/trailers and they can be misleading.

Has anyone played Divinity 1 or 2? I really feel like playing CRPGs for some reason. Just looking for some opinions on those two game or any other CRPGs that come to mind

not “whole game” but full featured. All core mechanics and stuff should be there whether or not the whole game is. I dont want to wait for a 70GB demo only to find out i dont like the game.

Physical Media vs Digital media. Letting me read chapter 1 and maybe 2 would be sufficient to gauge a story. Also library’s are a thing so you could easily read part of a book for free and buy your own copy.

Trailers tease action and doom. Nothing else.

We’re probably thinking of different genres then.
With a shooter there’s usually not much changing in terms of gameplay. Other games might give you a key mechanic at the end of the first section for story reasons. Some features are unlocked throughout the game as you progress. There’s no telling if I like all the features that are unlocked later.

The demo will only be that big if they let you explores the whole map/world. 70GB demos are unreasonable. For some people that might make it impossible to buy and download the full game afterwards if they have data caps. And who wants to download and wait for that much data just for a demo? They could just buy the game and get a refund if they find out they don’t like it within the refund time window.

It’s true for ebooks, though.
And I haven’t been to a library in a few years, so I don’t know if they get new releases at the same time as book shops. So if you want a newly released book you’ll probably have to wait.

Kids movies must be grim nowadays.
But trailers for comedies usually show all the funny parts and the movie is disappointing.

Nope. Wanted to buy them but by the time they got cheaper I lost interest (which is usually around the time when they go on sale).

Shadowrun Returns is nice. Cyberpunk with some magic setting. But very basic. Can’t even compare to Divinity - Original Sin. I like the series, though.

Exactly… literally the best jokes are shown in the trailer then nothing else in the movie comes remotely close…

That’s like making a trailer for Azumanga Daioh with Osaka holding the knife in there… nothing else in the show is even close to that brilliant scene. that should be vague enough for people who want to eventually watch it to not get spoiled… I highly recommend the show. My favorite anime so far

And there is no way to tell but i want to see if it even has something to stand on.

Ebooks are digital media. I could easily do something where you can read a book for 30 minutes and then cut you off.

Bright and flashy

Its called its the only good thing about modern comedies now.

That should be obvious within a very short amount of time. If the experience changes negatively then it’s just a bad game. Usually reviews warn about something like that. And good ones do that without revealing spoilers.

It’s probably easier to just give you a certain amount of pages to read instead of doing a time limit thing. And while it won’t stop piracy, it still requires at least one person who buys the whole thing instead of figuring out an exploit in the demo that gives them access to the full content without the time limit or barriers in the demo.

But if their trailers are also all action and doom…?

If the trailer contains all the good parts I just don’t bother with the whole movie. Neither worth my time, money or effort (in case of Arr!).

undetermined period of time has passed, time to post

What is your stance on bananas?

Not always. Could just be a all the original ideas are in the demo.
