The Lounge 0001 [From the Beginning]

Also, neat.

Another video. Still trying to figure out why the area near the blower (fans for inside the car) motor, is so loud.

Oh also. My fix for the speedometer light/dash light not working was to get this (which arrives tomorrow) and clip it onto the air vent rofl. Who needs to fix it the right way when the easy way actually might be better :stuck_out_tongue: (well for now anyway)

I was going to get green LEDs or El wire but thereā€™s no way to make that look good withoutā€¦ Doing what Iā€™d have to do to just replace it normally, which includes tearing the dash apart, so yeah no. But having matching lights wouldā€™ve been neat.

(Just posting here because idk reasons. Also will actually post it after itā€™s done on the thread).

What I learned today in class today:
Firmware, POST, and BIOS. Which was interesting.

Firmware is amazing to play with. You get the keys to the kingdom and you can control it like a puppet.

Always that irritating problem of trying to patch the lowest level firmware because if you mess up then you might end up being screwed. Cant write new firmware to the hardware if the update routine is gone

Cellphone and Carrier Update:
Iā€™ve gone through Carriers and Phones like candy the last 5 years.

I am currently using Tello but there are major issues:
People receiving calls
Lag on updating
Not receiving text

Out of all the carriers Republic Wireless was and is the best. My main issue was and has been phone selection from them for security updates.

Luckily they do allow you to bring certain phones and one of those are the google pixel phonesā€¦ so I bought a Google Pixel 3a. I got a sim from Republic Wireless and then Iā€™m going to go on the one year 1 gig plan cause itā€™ll save me some money.

Why the Pixel 3a when 4 is coming out in October? Because itā€™s cheap it has one more year of updates and two more years of security updates. Which is fine by me.

I miss programming. Had a blast writing a mini library that would take a std::string and output a vector with it split by some delimiters

Today in Online Class learning about motherboards:
Iā€™m glad we live in the PCI-e era of computers.

pretty much everything runs over PCIe now, its the backbone for all our connectivity for devices and IO and how computers communicate with the world.

It was pretty interesting learning about serial vs parallel. The tech in motherboards now is a lot better then what we started with. The northbridge and southbridge stuff was interesting. Like the CPU does what the Northbridge chip did but we still have the southbridge chip.

Iā€™m enjoying what Iā€™m learning. Tomorrow is exciting because I get to learn all about power supplies. Iā€™m really excited about that because I really enjoyed reading the detailed and indepth power supply reviews. I didnā€™t know the terminology or what all it meant but I was and am fascinated by one of the most critical parts of the pc.

GoG has a sale going on for some RPG games, including Tyranny and the basic edition of Pillars of Eternity. Donā€™t bother. Humble Bundle has them in an RPG bundle for $4.43.
Theyā€™re Steam codes and you still get the Deadfire dlc for Pillars of Eternity for free.
