They'll get security updates until October 2019, the same month Google will stop providing customer service for them.
Nah, there are definitely differences. Since I got my Samsung Tab A I got 3-4 small updates. Meanwhile my Razer Phone 2 only got an update to Android P…security patch level February 2019.
Meanwhile the Pixel series and devices that are part of Android One get 2 years of software updates and 3 years of security patches.
Brands like Umidigi on the other hand are lucky if they get even 1 update (not even a big system update, just small fixes).

security updates i guess, but its android its been trash from the onset/obviously google doesnt care at all about the security
i mean people rooted the first one because everything you typed in any program went into the terminal emulator you couldnt access, and they had a service that would open a telnet with root access on every single one of the phones
especially with google spying i would recommend just never log into literally anything you care about at all, never enter cc info etc

Pretty difficult with so many thing requiring an account nowadays. Takes a lot of use out of a smartphone.
nah like have your shitty google account and sign in to things you can that require an email using that email

i mean were talking a company with over a decade online with one of the largest websites that entire time, running their own servers/hosting for multitude of services, and they elected to install a back door onto the phones, did so little testing they could not figure out that literally everything that was typed say a text message could be executing commands into the terminal

well if you want anonymity you cant ever sign in with a sim card(or cdma w.e. registered phone) at any point in a actual as delivered android os
but for android ye about all you can do if you want security/no spying is run no google services at all, which means third party app store/manually installing apk or whatever
< personally just dont enter anything really so they have limited access for spying anyways
Well, not even dumb phones are safe anymore these days. Got a Nokia 800 Tough for my grandma and it comes with Google Assistant, Facebook and WhatsApp pre-installed (can only delete Facebook) and an app store.
they got weirdo ones now that dont have any apps and shit though, for the hipsters
theres one with only text display lel
And then there’s this Librem phone and Pine Phone that ship without Android and lots of phone that support LineageOS.
But it’s a shame they inject that crap into dumb phones now too.

I’d honestly be interested in seeing China (Huawei, Xiaomi, etc) say “fuck you” to Google and put their own OS on their phones without any Google apps and see how Google reacts.
Huawei and Xiaomi are getting more and more attention here and especially Huawei is basically up with Samsung and Apple when it comes to phones offered by carriers.
Not that I’m welcoming China as a new participant in the “gadgets that spy on you” game, but Google is getting too comfortable.
