Yeah, those were decent as a PDA with stylus from what Iâve seen/heard.
But the touch stuff that came after it was way behind Android and iOS in terms of features, full of bugs and because of the dispute between Google and MS they lacked official Google apps.
And MS cracked down on 3rd party apps, not just of Google apps but others too. And the companies were like âwell, nobodyâs using Windows Phone, so weâre not making an app for itâ and people were like âwell, thereâs no apps for Windows Phone so weâre not using itâ.
And then MS did what they always do and abandoned it, just like with the Zune, Games for Windows Live, etc.
< dunno feel like they might be working up to back at it but with already having an established platform,
their whole unified w.e. bs, with 8/10
ex:
is a custom arm chip
to go from that to a phone would probably not be that different then a custom rom backporting a kernel or something to an older device using the drivers/firmwares from the newest one that shipped for that device, besides making a phone app and stuff
< just saying they could at some point if they feel the platform(the windows on arm) is large enough or whatever, as all that shit would directly translate over
ex: say they use this to test the waters without having to do any work at all on their os, after a couple gens maybe people get used to the idea of ms selling a sub tablet sized arm device, that if they then released a pro line or something that would have all the windows shit, they would already be in that real of device atleast(as a manu)
but idk, just sayin think they could do a big again if they wanted, and probably better results this time given more software
Could? Yeah. Likely? Not really. Apart from (most of) the Surfaces their entire portable line-up flopped. Windows Phone, tablets with Windows, Zune, Microsoft Band, etc.
MS either plain sucks when it comes to mobile stuff (usually OS wise cause most of the Nokia Windows Phones were pretty dope quality wise) or donât put any effort into it/make the wrong decisions and then quit.
I think that would be the Surface Duo with Windows 10X.
Other than for benchmark jerking there hasnât been any noticeable performance improvement in processors for phones/tablets it seems.
They run as smooth as it gets. Upgrading from a 835 to a 855 isnât worth it. And better cooling will be more beneficial if youâre into mobile esports.
Cause who the fuck that doesnât play 3D games on their phone needs 1x2.96 GHz Kryo 485 & 3x2.42 GHz Kryo 485 & 4x1.78 GHz Kryo 485, 12GB RAM and a 90-120Hz display? Itâs deluxe wankery of the highest ordah.
The biggest differences are with the software the manufacturers put on their phones and those are lacking the more they customize it. Thatâs what I like about the RP2, just stock Android with Nova launcher. None of that EMUI/MIUI bs or locked down by Samsung Knox. Oxygen OS seems good too, as it only enhances the existing stuff in small steps.
The Apple way.
Dunno. Ever since I had phones with shitty stuff pre-installed I liked having a launcher/app drawer where I can at least hide all that clutter.
< dont even use many apps but dont want all the windows and stupid google search bar and shit widgets
just set to one page and nothing on it
although bringing back the sweet big ass white mechanical clock so i can laugh in zoomers not being able to tell time when i cover up the other clock on the top right
to them be like why does your phone have a flavor flav chain
least on the newer versions of Android you can usually disable that stuff in the app settings anyway. My G5 only came with Evernote which could be uninstalled and the rest of the bloat and LG stuff you can outright disable. though it was an International unlocked version of the phone and not tied to a carrier.
my Sony phone before that one could do it too and Sony have a lot of bloat on their phones
Samsung still does that crap. Came pre-installed with Word, Excel and I think Notes and you canât uninstall them, only the updates. Well, at least without rooting and ADB, but Iâm not touching that. Knowing me Iâd at least soft-brick the tablet/phone.
I think @wolfleben had to search online to find a way to remove that from the home screen. think that was a Pixel 3a? Itâs stupid that a phone thatâs supposed to be running stock Android has crap like that. Feels like MS hiding settings in Win8/10.
And adding shortcuts for settings/options to the home screen with Nova launcher can be a pain in the ass. Just a simple shortcut for the notification log and files is annoying to find.
The only thing I miss with Nova launcher is different options for the navigation bar. Like, on Motorola you can switch to 1 button (swipe left for back, swipe right for switching between open apps, swipe up for task manager, press for home) and Samsung where you can replace them with 3 bars and swipe up on them AND even remove them so you just swipe up at the place where the bar would be.
Having a fat bar at the bottom with just 2 buttons seems like a waste of space and on AMOLED screens this is one of those things thatâs always on the screen in the same place and prone to burn in after a year or two when youâre outside a lot (with auto-brightness on) or just have it at high brightness all the time).
