The Lounge 0001 [From the Beginning]

But that’s not what consoles were meant to be. Sure, consoles stopped being the “plug in, insert disc, play” they used to be until the PS2/X Box era cause now you have to install games, download and install updates - even for a fucking controller. But this is just another step towards consoles becoming PCs that are locked down by software. How long until they start making them upgradeable or like tiered pre-built PCs?

The X360 Core looked like a good deal at first cause it was cheaper and nobody really gave a shit about the amount of storage. Wireless controllers for the PS2/XBox were usually bulky and shitty, so the wired controller that came with the X360 core was fine. And iirc if you wanted to use your profile on a friend’s X360 you needed a memory card anyway.

But if you look at the various Nintendo DS/3DS models, there are some models that introduced hardware limitations due to which newer games wouldn’t work with older models - like the right analog stick.
Or with the XBOne(S)/X where the very first model does not support 4K at all (due to the lack of a Ultra HD BluRay drive; and I assume there’s no 4K content available for download for that model too, cause MS’s support page states you need a One S or One X and a 4K TV for 4K)
Or with the PS4/Pro. Same thing.

But this also showed that early buyers never got the “full package”, kinda like with the trend of “definitive/complete/etc” editions for games.
More storage, additional features, smaller cases, more fine-tuned (like dealing with loud fans).

Is that a good thing for console players though? Will some games struggle to perform well on the weaker model? 1080p 60fps aren’t a standard on the PS3/XBO and 4K is only possible with revisions, so will there also be a difference for the new XBox?
Apparently Microsoft didn’t like announcing revisions to prevent buyer’s remorse. And there wasn’t a model with less features at the launch of the XBO, so why now again? And even with different performance.

Microsoft avoids outright announcements of new motherboard production runs and their subsequent appearance in the market in part due to uneven distribution causing buyer’s remorse and to prevent purchaser delay.

I doubt that they’re going to lower the price of the weaker model below the launch price of the XBO. Next gen stuff has been more expensive at launch than previous generations, slowly raising them over the years. That’s why we’re now having phones and GPUs that sell for over $1000 while at the same time the weaker next gen models sell for a higher price too (mostly looking at Apple and Nvidia, AMD kept the MSRP surprisingly almost the same; not accounting for low stock raising the prices).

nintendo basically does same thing with your lower speed portable mode compared to the docked mode

In other news can get Japan import stuff here like this

Will see how it is.

grocery store or you go to niptown?

At grocery stores. In San Fran there’s a ton of restaurants and other import stuff though with a lot more

< seen some of that stuff in grocery stores in midwest and stuff too :x mostly instant ramen, some candies, sodas and stuff(where its like 1/2 in japanese or whatever)

so i found a Cadillac 472 engine and transmission for $800 locally and im going to see if i can’t get the guy to lower the price. but… if i can figure out a way to make the massive 7.7L, 350hp/500ft/lb torque engine and transmission into the Volvo and find a rear end (i found one that will work but it might be too wide for the volvo, will have to see about it) and make a driveshaft, that would be an insane volvo rofl.
the gas mileage would be in the single digits but … if i can do this would be hilariously fast. and like a 3-4 month project, though i could probably get it done in a month or two if i really worked it.

probably wont end up doing it because i’d like to travel home but if i can, would be awesome :stuck_out_tongue: .

could just donk the rear tires and go trolly beach buggy rally volvo

But it’s one thing, not 2 different consoles you have to decide between and pay for each (no idea why anyone would buy both new XBox consoles though).

Lucky you!

does the lite have the full speed or is it undocked only?

They’ll both have 8 cores @~3.5GHz (but one of them will clock a bit higher).
The stronger one will also have 16GB RAM (with 13GB guaranteed for games, 3GB for OS).
And they state 12Teraflops on Anaconda vs 4Teraflops on Lockhart (XBOne X 6Teraflops).
Other than that - and that they’ll use some NVMe SSD - there’s not really more known regarding specs.

nah mean the switch, does the lite also clock up if you plug it in or is it nerfed like the regular one off the dock?

There’s no docked mode for the Switch Lite.

so its da slow switch then?

There doesn’t seem to be a difference in hardware other than the smaller display (but same resolution) and the non-removable JoyCons. But you can’t put it in a dock or connect it to a monitor.

ye but the other switch has the faster docked mode

That’s cause it gets power from a cord and not from the battery when docked. Doesn’t have to limit the clockspeed in favor of longer battery life.

ye but if is 20% faster than the lite, basically 2 models then

unrelated: got my second pair of headphones in to make my stereo sub ones lol

Yeah, but with the difference that they’re the same in portable mode. There’s no portable mode for home consoles like the XBox and PS4. And the Switch Lite didn’t release at the same time the regular Switch did.

DIY headphones?

The SoC in the Switch Lite is actually faster than the one in the original. Its using the T210B01 codenamed Mariko and can technically boost higher but it doesn’t have the power delivery or really need it at 720p in handheld mode.
