unless you care about the patches you can ignore. Can even install packages that update it on boot

If you wanted to try Budgie on Fedora there’s a copr repo for that too.

https://copr.fedorainfracloud.org/coprs/alunux/budgie-desktop-git/

only thing is it hasn’t been updated in 8 months and doesn’t work on Fedora 32 :frowning:

well it works but its highly not recommended. Just edit the server URL to hardcode a specific fedora version that is supported by the repo.

So if the repo url is https://download.docker.com/linux/fedora/$releasever/$basearch/stable then just change it to look like https://download.docker.com/linux/fedora/31/$basearch/stable

sounds like it requires some “knowing what you do”, so…nah.
I use my laptop only for letting the same anime play on repeat while I sleep. occasionally I run sudo dnf update.

Fedora works great for that XD

ye here’s the thing though Fedora 32 is supported by the package it just has too many broken dependencies when you try and install it :frowning:

Switching DEs or even login screen hasn’t been a smooth experience for me, so I just stick to the one it installed with (from the various spins).

Feels like a fucking waste of hardware though. my old retarded netbook was able to do that, even when it was bloated with Win7 Starter.

I had to sport Win7 Starter for a while and fuck that. Had to modify the kernel to bypass the 2gb ram limit.

mine bitcoin in the background? compile the linux kernel? folding at home? I mean there are plenty of homeless projects that could use a couple of spare cycles.

ah yes. Fedora and its dependency hell when you do anything outside of the distro. Ubuntu is better and arch is just the best when it comes to it. I cant even count the number of hours ive spent tracking down old libraries and hacking together scripts that forcibly inject them into the binary just so it will run.

ye soo many time have I had to force libraries to get software to work. at one point even had todo it to multimc or it would segfault because it didn’'t like Fedora’s libssl package XD

is getting a little bit better though with things like containers and silverblue but those have their own issues at times too.

I’ll look into it.

For my netbook it was too bloated. intel atom, 1gig ram, spinning seagate rust.
Switched to Mint when Firefox took 1min to open and loading. That’s how I got to “use” linux.

I’d really recommend compiling the Linux kernel at least once if you are at all interested in Linux. its a great learning experience to see how it all works and fits together.

im pretty sure thats how must people start off. I mean i started linux because i just couldnt get ahold of a windows install disk after a hard drive failed

I started using Linux because I put Windows Vista on my Pentium 4 and it couldn’t run this online game I wanted to play but on Linux it ran like 100% better than it ever did on there which gave me a massive advantage in stuff like PVP XD

you both being all creatively fixing problems, meanwhile I tried it because a mix of boredom and very early windows 10 being a cunt lol

Still fun though, and way more interesting and satisfying to mess with to get everything just so

My laptop works. There’s no need to fix anything. So why do I want to install Ubuntu Budgie now?

I think it’s neat, from what I have experienced is better than windows on laptops. Though I really could give a damn what you do with your stuff, it’s yours lol to do what you like with, but could be a way to waste time since most everything is in various states of closed still

I mostly mess around with Linux when I get bored of other stuff which inevitably randomly happens.
Also, semi unrelated, steam in home streaming is way better now. Though for me since my desktop is 5ft away from my bed not that useful

In home streaming is hands down one of the best streaming implementations out there. means I can actually play stuff like csgo and other more demanding games on my i3 6100 laptop as I lay in bed and the latency really isn’t that bad compared to stuff like Stadia as its all in network, can even use it on my Switch with full joycon support with Android XD
