At least it’s playable in the state it’s sold in. Unlike other games that need people like Durante to fix them cause the devs couldn’t be arsed (Dark Souls, Deadly Premonition).

Call me cheap and ignorant but I find this really delusional.
You can get a Switch or PS4 Pro for that price (I think XBOX is $50 more).

So it just plays GBA carts? Can get a second hand original GBA for less than $100 and it does the same thing, hell i could even play GBA games on my GameCube if I could be bothered to set it up.

Yup.
It “only” has a backlit screen with software brightness adjustment, ‘better’ mono speaker, a rechargeable battery with modded backdoor for USB charging and more color options (with additional cost) for the case and buttons.
You can even order the parts from the website and mod it yourself.

Sure, but you’d need a device that’s as portable to compare the experience.
A laptop is more versatile than a gaming handheld, but also bigger and heavier.
Although, you could also make your own retro pi handheld.
