I also have to work on some soldering projects soonish, mainly fixing a couple of the keyboards I have.
Also making an adapter for one.

Iā€™m mostly using my iron to fix stuff atm. want to do more soldering projects but gonna wait until I can get a better iron/tools before I do that.

Like what?

I kinda wanna make my own audio cables (which should mostly be easy stuff), but I lack some stuff - like that flux and a sponge. Also not sure if my grandfatherā€™s old soldering iron is still good to use (no temp control, been used for decades).

The ribbon cable for the power button on my laptop is damaged so Iā€™m salvaging a clean cable from another button and soldering onto this one to hopefully get it working.

Not giving a shit about warranty and buying headphones and doing a Superlux mod on them would be neat too.
Fuck beyerdynamic and their attached cables on the DT770/880/990.

No reason, just random.

Yeah. I donā€™t mind waiting. Iā€™m pretty interested in reading the performance of the the Ryzen APUs when they come out.

Next week is annual review -
A little legal firm business for you lot. When you work at a law firm, you have an annual review on your performance. This is when your boss or bosses give you feedback on how you have done for the year. It is also a chance for you to give feedback to the company. It is also the time when raises and sometimes bonuses are given out.

How do I think I will do on mine: I expect Iā€™ll be fine. I donā€™t expect a bonus. Iā€™m hoping for a small reasonable raise based on what Iā€™ll be doing very soon.

So the soldering didnā€™t work out. the ribbon cable is just too small and fragile and tried it with some stripped psu cables as well but similarly my solder is too big and bridges all the connections, probably just gonna go the route of getting a tact switch instead with some thinner solder. Also found out that those extra two contacts on the ribbon cable were for the LEDs on the button so going the tact switch route can just ignore them.

how fine of a tip do you have and are you using enough flux?

the tip isnā€™t very fine at all and I didnā€™t use extra flux for it.

i see a problem here

yeah, well I have extra flux I can use but this is the only tip I have (well not the only one @Cavemanthe0ne  ) so will probably need to get one.

I would reccomend a soldering station like this
https://www.amazon.com/Weller-WLC100-40-Watt-Soldering-Station/dp/B000AS28UC/ref=sr_1_4?s=hi&ie=UTF8&qid=1517619397&sr=1-4&keywords=soldering+iron

or this if you can afford it
