The Lounge 0001 [From the Beginning]

For software/hardware engineering internships they’re usually quite clear on what they want.

Got a job application for the position as a “secretary” for a local school/commercial academy. They were basically looking for an accountant, secretary, someone to design stuff for their events (in Adobe software and Excel!!!) and a lawyer in one person for shit pay.

That happens at lot so we need somebody with 10+ years of experience but with the salary of an intern.

18yo, 10+ years experience, 2 titles, no plans for having children, can work overtime anytime (including days off and weekends/holidays). Entry level pay (we could do less, but we legally can’t).

What I’m saying is if someone is applying for an engineering internship saying that you can use MS Office apps shouldn’t be necessary it should be a given you can use basic software. Listing never asks for it but I’ve been told to put in because some people even at that level are somehow that incompetent.

What about “entry” level positions that require 5-10 years of experience in the field

The main reason you have to do is because HR shift through CVs and they have no idea other than a checklist for stuff like this.

“Youre now officially have the position as waiter”
“But sir. I work as a sys admin at a law firm”
“Youre a waiter with a sys admin background”
“How am i supposed to live off $2.25/hr?”
“Find someone else to work for. Oh wait you cant”

That’s what i’ve been told, I still think it’s stupid. It just shows that the initial screening process is flawed.

It is flawed but sadly there’s nothing you can do but play the game.

*unless you know peop–"
Wait thats also a flaw lol
The fact that a lot of jobs are who you know more than how good you are at it.

It’s all about how much they need to teach you during the first few days to be able to work on your own.
My mom can “use” a computer but she’s by no means tech savvy. She sits in front of a PC everyday at work, using software that’s been programed for specifically that company (database-like). Yet she can’t update her own laptop.

I really hate incompetence. And there’s too much around

Damn…should’ve gone to waiter school instead of learning this useless sys admin stuff.

With some people I’m amazed they can even function in this day and age lmao

A lot of people I interact with here at my current job are like “I use my finger to sign my name on the tablet? I’ve never used one before how”

And then there’s the kids who try to use a gameboy like a touchscreen and ask where the youtube app is.
