Also i decieded to just switch back to budgie. Didnt like how the mate live envrioment felt so i rebooted and im downloading the budgie image now

Yeah should be great. I get that from time to time but often lack the inspiration to find something that’ll satisfy it but this should give you something you can really focus on.

Damn thats quite the list of things you have to do. I mostly just update and install packages with minor config system wide changes.

yep. Most of the work is due to the fact that solus does weird things like use goofiboot which is beyond a pain to configure

yep Solus definitely doesn’t follow the norm, I don’t really know much about goofiboot but I guess I’m lucky my laptop is old enough that it uses grub by default anyway.
its a fork of systemd-boot but it pretty much requires a working os that supports goofiboot to configure it properly. You also cant really customize it that much beyond just adjusting timeout and kernel parameters

To me that doesn’t sound very good or even portable which would be a problem for me. I assume the reasoning for going with this is speed and simplicity given lack of customization?

pretty much. on my mac solus will boot in about 2-3 seconds if you time from the bootloader instead of initial poweron

wow that really is fast. I’d be luck to get around 10-15 seconds on Solus with grub. I guess there really is an advantage to using it for some people.

yep NVMe is on my long list of thing I want to have. I guess it also gonna kinda suck in some ways when you get your new laptop as you’ll be missing that SSD but will be soo much better in every other way.

iirc itll have either a 128GB or 256GB m.2 sata ssd in it so meh?
Also fucking RIP. ssd shat itself in the middle of a upgrade
