The Lounge 0001 [From the Beginning]

about halfway through:

Pretty good show so far. Certainly not exactly what I was expecting, but that’s not a bad thing at all.

mostly alright but I’ve been feeling kinda tired as fuck and keep falling asleep in my chair which isn’t great.

Oh also forgot to mention probably getting the $400 UAC pass for quakecon because uhh reasons?
Semi related; will be stopping by the modders-inc booth there as Craft Computing is going to be there. Makes two places I’ll be going to while at Quakecon for sure now (the other being saying hi to AMD people I know so)

Also deciding what GPU I want to be in the mod for quakecon; torn between a 1080 and Vega 64- will see if I can get Vega but otherwise will just hunt for a 1080 for a good deal because power consumption and gaming performance all that. Also the fact that there’s a specific look I want in the build and the 1080 waterblock fits that, the EKWB vega block I can use if I get vega is OK but not quite right. Anyway just rambling now…

Y u no sleep lol

Listening to absurd amounts of prog and working on vocals.

Power consumption I get, but Vega 64 thwomps the 1080 in performance, especially once you start overclocking. Pascal 2GHz hardlock. :frowning:

because sleep is for the weak

well technically I did kinda sleep in my chair so there’s that?

I mean $440 it less for a 1080 is a thing now, meanwhile Vega 64 is still $500+ usually even second hand. So will see. If I have to buy it myself I’m not sure which I’ll pick… On the one hand, I have a vega waterblock already… But its summer and heat sucks, lol. On the other what you already said about the 1080 and also the fact I will need to buy a water block for it. Will decide when I hear back about things.
May get sent a vega but thats a maybe at best so not super counting on it.

Check this shit out:

1220MHz HBM is unicorn though.

You know what I love about Win10 search? Fucking nothing. I have to manually go in and index 3TB of drives just so it’ll actually fucking search them, despite them being primary volumes with literally every program on them.

Fucking shitty search system. It worked fine in Win7 and then Microsoft had a sudden rush of shit to the brain and kneecapped the fuck out of it.

Edit: FUCK

It’s on the test bench because DX12. You of all people should understand this.

Do I really have to put /s on every joke lol? …
Oh well :stuck_out_tongue:

Besides actually I pretty much just game, use browse the webs, and stream games at this point so no, not really. I have separate systems for extreme OC that generally use win7 so. Or XP if I feel like going to the trouble of finding all the junk needed to properly use XP (but I don’t use LN2 nor do I go for speed runs on CPUs, so I usually don’t care enough to do that either)

FYI, Win10 generally provides better scores than Win7 for CPU overclocking, even back to Athlon 64 and Pentium D. 2% better sometimes.

I tried it with my QuadFX system and the multi-core score in CB15 went from 244 to 253. No other changes to the system, just loaded a different OS.

that would be microsoft optimizing the kernel to be more mobile friendly XD

Stock or Overclocked? Because this would explain that if oced because windows RTC bug.

QuadFX is 12 year old hardware, it doesn’t even have the necessary features to be affected by the RTC bug. It’s also locked to BIOS tweaking only because of the way it tethers both CPUs to the bus.

if you change the CPU frequency in the BIOS, the clocks are unaffected on boot-up

Also that bug has been fixed, twice, and HWBot mods still enforce the rule despite that.

Weird. Both the small bump in performance and the hwbot site rules lol…
That said, hwbot isn’t exactly known for being great so.
I just use it as a convenient way to keep track of my overclocks, and save them for later reference. The points system there is so fucky I don’t even care about the rankings much lol
