The Lounge 0001 [From the Beginning]

They are selling well.
Siemens uses them with VMware.

That’s a big ass company though. They have the money.

I have had a thing for NUCs ever since the haswell ones.
I pre-ordered the broadwell model as soon as it was listed for sale.
It’s been serving as my moms office PC ever since.
Blew her mind how her huge ass Fujitsu desktop PC from cirka 2006 could be replaced by this little thing.

But they’re essentially just laptops without the ability to use them on the go.

Like I said before, a 15W 2C/4T CPU will serve the average user well.

I want PC building to be a fun hobby again without going bankrupt cause of RAM and a GPU.

What consumer-grade software will take advantage of that?

Become aremis and collect old shit?

MS Paint 2

Old stuff can be expensive too. And the older it gets, the less useful it becomes.

I just want LibreOffice to get the ribbon menu like MS Office. The old style is definitely outdated.

Not talking about building a 386 dos machine. Invest in the dual core celerons no one cares about and reap the benefits of ram people are just throwing away

God no

I’m done with old Intel stuff. We use PCs with Pentium E5800 and 2GB RAM in the Office course. They’re terrible.
Same at the place I worked before. Old Pentiums, 2GB RAM.
At least they’re using Win7.

Pentium 4 with 1.75GB of ram. 5 drives from around 2004 running in raid 0.

Its sense been retired mostly because i dont have a good way to access it and it wastes too much power running all the time. Plus in one of the drives i have a failed bearing so its days are numbered before i lose everything

How did that hardware last you that long? And was that still DDR2?

Absolute Luck though im even luckier by getting a early warning with a failed bearing

I think so

iirc it should be, my P4 uses 2x 512 sticks of DDR2 memory.
