The Lounge 0001 [From the Beginning]

I didn’t watch the video yet, but does NZXT actually make the motherboards or do they just buy them from someone else and slap their cover on it?

Is a teaser so no idea.

I can imagine it being just a rebrand like some companies do with PSUs.
But if they actually enter the market with their own…needs to be seen if they can be competitive. Biostar and EVGA don’t seem to be much of a competition for MSI, ASUS, Gigabyte and Asrock.

Oh EVGA is one of the best because they are known for a baller AF support team and good overclocking motherboards. Only reason they arent in the top is because they dont make AMD parts.
Biostar tho… Yeah they didn’t do well because they didnt make good things for a long time lol.

If they did make it themselves it would likely be a limited production run because manufacturing is expensive and they don’t have the volume of other companies yet, I can say with a fair degree of certainty that they have outsourced the manufacturing to another company but whether its an NZXT design motherboard or an OEM one re branded with some stuff thrown on I can’t tell yet.

So I guess those shrouds are… Metal?

That changes my opinion somewhat but it still bothers me. Because it looks like cheap plastic not metal lol…

Small update from AKG: they checked the serial numbers of the 2 pairs I still have (haven’t sent them back yet) and they indeed came from AKG in Nov 2017 and not a different source (whatever those might be).
Which leaves the fuck up on Amazon’s side.

Steve from Gamers Nexus seems to be 99% certain that the board is an OEM design from ECS with NZXT input which would make sense for their first board and it isn’t necessarily a bad thing given that the target for this board is aesthetics and being an OEM desgin shouldn’t have any major issues as the board should’ve already been validated and in use by others.

Aren’t those usually crap?

Would depend on the OEM but they are usually very rigidly to spec and safe in most cases, given this a “high end” board though maybe not but only time will tell.

Also some interesting stats. This is growth over the last 5 years for AMD and Nvidia.

im thinking that growth might have been from crypto currency miners

No, its from everything nvidia has been successful at over the past 5 years and dominating like 70% of the gaming and until recently basically all professional & HPC & also server GPU markets.
AMD on the other hand between bulldozer and Radeon have not been doing so well.

Edit; Oh also things like the Shield and Nintendo switch as well for nvidia.

All those things makes investors happy so stock rises. And stock falls when companies make flop products or arent making making and nvidia is both doing well and making hand over fist hence the nearly 2000% growth.
Just crazy how high its gone.

Meanwhile AMD is at a healthy 400% growth which is respectable enough but nowhere near 2000%

Still sad I cant upgrade my gpu I’ve got the upgrade itch but oh well.
Meh, will wait and see and in the meantime will try to snag something from hardware swap or eBay I guess

MSI is just trying to fit whatever the fuck they can onto the godlike boards at this point

I suppose I could play with overclocking my old cards though like my GTX 465 again because reasons. Maybe even set up a win7 rig just for it and extreme OC or whatever
Oh wait a minute I could go get some Dice and some isopropyl alcohol and play with that (or maybe LN2) as I could do that & stream it maybe. I do have a capture card after all so there’s that.
Just need to dig out my LN2 pot and find a PSU thats good enough to power my 3970X or 3930K
Hmm

What? A network switch on a motherboard? I’m not entirely sure how I feel about that. imo network switching is best on a dedicated device.

The motherboard that is literally pointless lol
The only things I used to like from them were the Lightning GPUs and the Copper GPUs
Which both aren’t a thing anymore RIP
Now they just make overpriced, sometimes OK things

cough X370 XPower Titanium cough
