Project VD Noir Update:
I rolled the three sided die. The story will be set in 1980 in Sweden. I’ve know the timeframe for a bit. It was just determining the where. I did my basic research. Is the story set in the 80s? Well it is set in the year 1980 or rather that’s where it starts. I probably will start writing it is sometime in 2019 once Project Space first pass is done.
End update

Those are probably for people who went directly through them. I wonder what the return rate on newegg and amazon is

Citizenship status and/or some kind of visa for the country of destination. Citizenship status is something you start ASAP as it can be 10+ years. Visas are nice but they often have terms and conditions with how long you can stay, if you can renew your visa. Visas have the major advantage of being quick with the option of permanent stay (depending on the visa)

Small steps. Just ordered a 8TB WD My Book that I’m gonna free from its enclosure and replace one of my int. drives with (need to figure out how to shuffle them around, though).
Kinda wanna replace my 2x 3TB drives (as they statistically have a higher failure rate than other x TB drives but my 2x 1TB drives are the oldest.
Hnng…must…resist urge…to buy…another 8TB drive…

Yeah. If I still have warranty I’m not dealing with the manufacturer and just let the seller handle it. It’s so much less of hassle having a quick chat with Amazon’s customer support, sending it back and immediately get a new one on the next day than sending it to the manufacturer and having to wait a few weeks without a replacement.

Yeah, yeah, triple post, I know. Bad posting-behaviour.

So…I think I’m gonna merge the content of my 1x 3TB and 1x 4TB drives. The content will take up ~50% of the 8TB drive.
The content of my 2nd 3TB drive will be moved to the then empty 4TB drive and result in 2x 3TB that are empty.
Not sure how to put them to use then. Buy ext. enclosures and use them for backups instead of that 1x 4TB ext. drive?
Maybe set them aside for some future project. But then I really want another 8TB drive for my PC.

edit: aaand I ordered a 2nd 8TB drive…
Still thinking about the HDD setup I wanna keep in my PC…

2x 8TB drives to replace the 2x 3TB drives. Then replace the 2x 1TB drives with the 2x 3TB drives as the 1TB drives are the oldest. Which would give me 2x 3TB + 1x 4TB + 2x 8TB -> 26TB total.

Chapter 12 is going well. It starts with how time is measured and the character adjusting to a 28 hour day.

TL;DW - RTX in BFV is incomplete at best, and fairly low quality considering the performance cost. No mapped sub-surface reflections if RTX is off, and grainy reflections with RTX on. Some surfaces are predefined to have RTX applied even if they are not visible (I.E.out of bounds windows on buildings) while other visible reflective surfaces have no RTX applied even within the playable area (lakes, rivers, streams, etc).

Good shit EA, nice job nVidia.

500GB SSDs for 70€ and lower…that’s how much my first 120GB SSD cost 4 years ago.
Same with HDDs. The 3TB+ models are getting cheaper to the point where 1TB make only sense in budget-builds where a 240GB SSD ain’t enough. 500GB and lower HDDs don’t make sense anymore (at least to me).

Got the drives about an hour ago.
WD really doesn’t seem to want people using their ext. drives as int. drives.
The casing is terrible. Apparently they change the number and position of tabs that hold the 2 parts of the chassis together. Took me quite a while to get it out without damaging anything.

Plugged it in (removed one of my 1TB drives just for moving the data around) and didn’t show up in the BIOS.
Well…shit.
But: I ordered some Kapton tape cause I wanted to cover my ass in case this happens. Cut a thin strip off and put it over the 3rd pin of the power port on the HDD. Et voila! It twerks! Currently using an old - ugh - USB2.0 ext. case and transfering the data from the 1TB to the 8TB, then repeat the procedure with the other 1TB drive, remove and install 2nd 8TB drive. The move data around and wait hours/days until it’s done.

Unfortunately the ext. USB3.0 enclosure won’t get here until Thursday…and I’m not waiting that long to move my data.

update: still moving the ~500GB via USB2.0 -_- cain’t wait for my USB3.0 enclosure to arrive.

Couldn’t you just unplug another SATA drive just for the transfer and put it back again afterwards? it has to be better than going at USB2 speeds for hours.

With still 3x SATA ports and the same amount of SATA power connectors unused, yes.
But I was too lazy to undo my cable management and now I’m paying the price.
It’s just the one drive, though, so everything after that will be connected via SATA.

Fuck yeah! 26TB + 6TB ext.

btw, the drives are “white label” and according to the product number the same as the HGST helium drives.

Chapter 12 is going well. I’m going to be making some notes on earlier chapters for when I type it up to incorporate ideas I have to make them better. It won’t take long.
