The Lounge 0001 [From the Beginning]

was going to start university this week but got covid last wednesday… it sucks. now feeling better again but still quarantining until friday (well, until monday school wise but going to work on saturday and possibly sunday). but so far anyway school seems like it will be pretty straightforward, took an entry level CIS class which is just some simple “app development” for phones and such, and history course is The World Since 1492 and the essays seem… odd, but easy enough. english… meh. And jumping straight into intermediate german which might be challenging though mainly because I haven’t tried writing/speaking german in some time. still understand it well though so there’s that.

otherwise work has been meh, not really a lot of interesting stuff but got some things for myself that were interesting so there’s that at least. Once I can actually go in person to school it probably will be less boring and I may get a job at school as M/W/F I have classes at 8-10AM and 2-4PM so some time in between I could use for either schoolwork or another job. Will see.

tech reviewers are weird lel

all freakin out about the 6500xt like they dont remember what a low end card is, i mean a rx 460/gtx1050 were also terrible purchases for like 150$ when you could get a 7970 prolly for like <100$ thats almost as fast a 1050ti

same with any the even lower like 1030 etc never a good deal fps/per dollar

on the one hand i kind of get it due to the fact that it has $200 msrp and for that it seems like a shit card for that price
then again if AMD didn’t raise the price it would have been raised by the inevitable resellers anyway so… meh?
seems like a quick $50-75 grab from AMD because why not in the current market
if they had been able to bring out the card and have stock of it for even the $200 mark it would be OKish but things are what they are so a new card is basically like
“oh look, a low-end card that is pretty bad but its something to say we released a card, it’s going to sell out anyway so who cares”

maybe intel, if nothing else with the upcoming low-mid tier GPU, at least will have enough stock for things to be semi-normal again

doubtful given they decided to not produce the gpu themselves so will just be whatever leftover space on tsmc amd or nvidia couldnt purchase

unless tsmc has more space on the 6nm then the 7 or something, but then all the new cards from both the others are also going to 6 i think, isnt like intel are turning on their fabs for cpus people arent buying and making gpus instead, is just whatever leftover space tsmc has

but 200$ when nvidia pushed a 3060 to like 400, i mean their 1050s were like 125~150 1050ti doin like 150~180, and wheres nvidias 3050 at 200?

edit: least theirs launching at ~250 will be soonish but before that last low end card was like 1650 or rx570 or something else old

idk seems like usual low end bad buy pos to me, but thats nothing new other than higher price but every other card went up in same time frame, i mean 3060vs 1060 msrp, and more recently us inflation lot of stuff up like ~20% and stuff just last couple years too, would rather price stay as low as it can, but doesnt seem that high compared to the 1050/ti etc price points from forever ago now

feel like basically same as whole nft thing, just people raging cause its the popular trend

acting like you can just copy the nft when unless its a stupid thing, should have some element of public key private key encryption going on, where they have a secondary component that would verify the data, to say if you wanted to process a transaction to give it to someone else(and generate a new one blocking out the old one, secondary component) sort of like if you have someones bitcoin wallet address, you can send them money but you aint gonna be able to pull jack from their wallet

which is the entire point of the nft, which could be used to enforce ip i guess, which pirates wouldnt like i guess, but if someone posted your saucy photos on porn hub and you could cryptographically prove they were your photos and be able to dmca might be cool i guess

but in general seems like a pointless thing to get mad about other than maybe some kinda neo luddite omg now they are gonna buy all muh gaming gpus just to mine jpegs, just dont buy them and you gud

got the regular function done for the name comparison one just some minor stuff to tidy up, some status update text to update and stuff then the longer busy work of readapting that with the verbose one

edits: got the verbose one workin think mostly done too some testing and stuff prolly poke around the text and stuff too, double check stuff

some reason have it outputting all the matches it finds in the verbose mode, i guess for being verbose, but kinda unnecessary when its doing more checks then files if some miss, and then in a separate file just a list of the ones that didnt match

nrcmpex
edits: lel forgot had a flip/flop on the name so was printing wrong argument, was tn2 had 1-5.txt, and tn1 and 1-2, 4-5, just as test sample

like the extra line space anyways
nrcmpex

so far dying light 2 pretty cool, although digital foundry had outdated version(prolly from recording earlier) or they messed up settings lol

the grass and stuff looks bunch worse on their examples then on the regular max without ray tracing, almost like they accidentally toggled to low(it can go right from max back to lowest) but dont think they would have missed something like that

Hello

sup?

Not much. I just re-stumbled upon this forum and figured I’d say hi.

lol ye just playin games

It’s a bit uhm…slow here. I guess people being busy with work and stuff.

That’s what you guys said last time I was here. Lol

hi! lol. yeah, i’m doing college for the second time, this time its for free though so… there’s that. and also quit the job i was working because i got one at the college I’m at now; only help desk currently but it means i can be on campus more and do some more things as far as community events and such as otherwise I would have no reason to stay and extra 4 hours just to do whatever thing it is instead of heading home which is a 20-30min drive.

but still doing tech salvaging on my own now when I feel like it. just picked up an HP Z440 workstation for $50 (LGA 2011-v3) and some keyboards, and a couple 1620v2 CPUs for my x79 boards. the ddr4 ECC reg ram should be arriving… today? Depends on USPS but when it is delivered then i can see if the Z440 works or not. probably throw my RX 460 2gb into it.
Still unsure of what CPU to upgrade it to as it has a 1620 V3 i think, which is OK but all the nice xeons for LGA 2011v3 are oddly expensive. Might go with a 12core, will see.

the recycling center I go to just got a lot of IBM stuff from the mid 80s, and I will be grabbing some previously there bits and pieces (AGP boards, some 5/6th gen core i motherboards, a random keyboard.) but amongst all the different things in the IBM pile is 13 Beamspring keyboards and a bunch of Model M terminal (and a few AT, not many) model Ms, and 3-4 Model F keyboards.
I’m not going to be getting most of them, other than perhaps a Monochrome 14" CRT because it uses VGA and i think it would be interesting to use as a second monitor or for testing old pcs. I’ll be getting one of the beamsprings possibly, for a reasonable price not the awful $2000 ebay prices though lol. Still it was interesting to see it all, was from a manufacturer of some kind (tools I think) and it would seem they finally upgraded at some point recently.
Might get photos of it all later if you all would be interested in that. I’ll be headed there tomorrow to grab the random assortment of stuff I had picked out this morning and can take some photos while there.
Also if you guys need literally anything the random tech crap they get there is… wild. lol.
they have a stack of probably 30 servers, hundreds of random laptops, 6+ full pallets of CRTs and another 6+ full pallets of keyboards… it’s fun trying to find things that are actually useful in the piles and piles of crap.

lol could be cool any sgi stuff? :stuck_out_tongue:

seen one locally once, kinda sucks missed out on sun e450 with pretty high config, and one time a sun rack with the nice glass door and everything for basically nothin

although if i could get a epyc with a dumb mining board with like 128 usb to x1’s would be pretty tricked out prolly for dumb internet mainframe idea to have ~128 nics direct

main purpose would be so you could reduce the number of layers to get to much larger numbers of systems, if you start at say 100 quad ports, thats 400, if you had 400 40port switches as the first layer in theory 16k systems but youd use up a bunch in interconnection probably to increase the speed like banks of them connected, but if you started 1 to go to 40, then to 1600 etc, that could remove least a couple layers simplifying access the the main brain/routing/name resolution part

obv would also need an accompanying couple pallets of switches or something ideally all the same

mostly just IBM stuff, a couple others but mainly mid 80s IBM terminals. about 13 IBM beamsprings which are the most interesting. I didn’t get these but this is how many model Ms of various kinds that were there, the owner of the store i worked at got all of them for his own ebay sales and so on.

I wasn’t very interested in them as I have a model M 122 and Model F XT already, and almost all of those are terminal M 122s.
the rest of what is there is the usual random tech stuff from… basically every era.

least some random stuff and not just poweredge, optiplex whatever

Also picked up a crt for free that I’m going to use with a lot of the older gpus and such and because I don’t feel like using it for anything other than basic testing. It’s actually not half bad, 1024x768 at 75hz. Nothing notable but will work for testing things and I might throw some older games on one of the rigs I have in my testing area and see how that goes lol

It’s a Compaq 151FS 15”. If i really wanted to I could go get some of the 20+ inch CRTs they have from the recycling place… I don’t feel like making a vintage gaming setup that much though lol.

Will have to figure out what to put it on though as it is quite chunky so now my work area is a lot smaller. Probably move the gpus out of the way and throw it on top of the Mac pro

Got one of the agp systems running finally lol. It doesn’t like the newer AGP cards but the GeForce 3 TI works so that’s great.

nice was gonna try keep the x2 system if it worked for like xp 32bit for the (no effort at all) 16bit dos support general older pc games that might get issues nowdays

instead random cpu and more ram for my ram light gonna make eventually :stuck_out_tongue: got bunch random sun modules, from like ultra 10, a newer sunfire like ultra sparc 3, some short ones some big fat/tall ones, some ddr/2, laptop etc

just do a nice glow behind them on a plaque or somethin, maybe throw in a old dram wafer or something(you can buy stuff like that online pree cheap sometimes)
