yep is a shame though, unity had some good ideas and usability was great its just the backend that maybe wasn’t so great.

it just looked good. was far enough from the windows look that it broke people muscle memory on what todo but was still user friendly enough that people got a idea of what todo

yeah, what I liked the most about unity was the minimal design and contextual search that made it super easy to open and find whatever the fuck I wanted. I think this was the reason why some windows users may have found it hard at first because contextual search was very new at the time and Windows didn’t do it well or at all and looking for stuff in the dash without searching was soo bad and far removed a programs list.

i really liked the search for functions. So i could press a button and search for a specific thing in the program im running

Oh yes that feature was amazing, made it really easy to find specific options in heavily nested menu bars, used that soo much in gimp.

if i didnt kill it with the default arch linux kernel then i wont kill it with my own custom kernel because compile times will alot faster as i can disable all of the AMD stuff, Intel stuff i dont use, features i dont use, etc

disable all the things

I want to compile a custom kernel for fedora but last time I tried it completely failed plus getting that working with nvidia drivers is a pain :frowning:

i could help you out if you want to go with that route still. ive got a fair bit of experince under my belt with custom kernels.

thanks I will have to take you up on that offer. will be a little while before I do it as I want to get my laptop working before anything else but will let you know soon.

deciding what drivers you have enabled and how you have them enabled is also the hardest part

yeah, is so much I need to learn about compiling custom kernels and getting that all working but will be good once I get the hang of it.

gentoo taught me alot about compiling a kernel because i had no clue what the hell i was doing XD

yep I’m mostly in the have no clue part. have only compiled custom kernels for a bare system like LFS and my phone and not for a full blown distro yet. My plan was to use LFS for that and build the system around it all but my laptop broke and couln’t really use LFS on Desktop as I didn’t want nvidia blobs on it and display wouldn’t really work without them.

is nouveau and basic VGA modes

idk why but nouveau has never worked right with my gpu. It could only get 800x600 and nothing else. It worked fine on my 970 but the 980 it doesn’t.
