The Lounge 0001 [From the Beginning]

thats always a plus, does the newest version of many optimizations? last I heard of wine they stopped staging releases so I guess compiling yourself is kinda that now?

no idea. just git cloned the repo

ah well I guess you’ll findout how it is soon enough then.

also GNU makes their documentation sounds really condescending XD

$ info standards

2.3
Please don't use "win" as an abbreviation for Microsoft Windows in
GNU software or documentation. In hacker terminology, calling
something a "win" is a form of praise. If you wish to praise Microsoft
Windows when speaking on your own, by all means do so, but not in GNU
software.

3.1
When you want to use a language that gets compiled and runs at high
speed, the best language to use is C. Using another language is like
using a non-standard feature: it will cause trouble for users. Even if
GCC supports the other language, users may find it inconvenient to have
to install the compiler for that other language in order to build your
program. For example, if you write your program in C++, people will
have to install the GNU C++ compiler in order to compile your program.

If an application is of interest only to a narrow part of the
community, then the question of which language it is written in
has less effect on other people, so you may as well please
yourself.

POSIX.2 specifies that `df' and `du' must output sizes by default in
units of 512 bytes. What users want is units of 1k, so that is what we
do by default. If you want the ridiculous behavior "required" by
POSIX, you must set the environment variable `POSIXLY_CORRECT' (which
was originally going to be named `POSIX_ME_HARDER').

is probably more but didnt have time to read everything

lmao this sums up GNU entirely why yes you may praise proprietary software but we want absolutely nothing todo with it sorta find it funny that GNU went to such lengths to even write that XD

Looking at scenes from movies with no gci is the funniest shit. Is just a bunch of people standing in green rooms

lmao yeah would love to see a whole movie like this without any of the GCI at all. would be hilarious because some of the shit they come up with to simulate real life like riding humans XD

That would be a amazing supercut

It would be the extras disc to end them all, definitely more interesting that the movie its self.

I doubt it would every happen because of the MASSIVE backlash of being fake though many people already know this so would it really be a concern. Also some movies have scenes of pure CGI so how would that be handled?

yep I mean their is already a huge problem with many people against CGI altogether to begin with.

We get the experience of staring at a green room XD

im in the same boat. A good movie should be able to be shot on a handicam and still be a good movie. Throwing a bunch of CGI at a bad movie does not make it better. Evil people doing evil things because they are just evil for the lolz does not make a good movie when every movie is that way.

It may be nostalgia talking but the 2000’s were a great time for movies. CGI was still expensive enough that it had to be done in moderation but could help pull off really nice effects.

yep tend to agree, I feel like the limitations of not being able to use CGI forced the them to be way more creative and come up with some very cool effects, we’ve lost quite a lot of that creativity by being able to just add anything you want and call it a day, most CGI now all feels superficial and fake and usually way over the top and isn’t true to life. overall I’m fine with using CGI when it makes sense but now its way overused.
